Ifeanyi George Celebrates Scoring In Rangers’ Win

Rangers International of Enugu midfielder, Ifeanyi George has disclosed how happy he was to net one of the goals that helped The Flying Antelopes beat AS Pelicans of Gabon and qualify for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Although the Coal City side went on to win 3-1, much to George’s delight, he confessed it was hard earned result at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, as it turned out to be a fixture that was far from easy for the team that lost 2-1 away in the first leg played in Libreville, Gabon.

While George declared during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that he was happy with the result, and the fact that he scored, he admitted that Rangers will now have to start preparing to do better in the group stage.

He further acknowledged that there is a lot of work to be done by the players, coaches and officials, after the team , after advanced 4-3 on aggregate, because they showed some laxities that helped Dertin Amores put Pelican in front with as curling a free kick after just four minutes.

George drew Rangers level on 18 minutes, while Nnamdi Egbujor, who also scored for The Flying Antelopes in the first leg, made it 2-1 seven minutes after half time and Olasunkanmi Oluwoyin scored the third goal on 58 minutes.

Afterwards, Rangers’ interim coach, Benedict Ugwu said he was always confident that his team would qualify for the group stage, despite losing the first leg in Gabon, but George admitted they had a shade of luck added to their efforts in Sunday’s reverse fixture at The Cathedral.

The dreadlocks-wearing forward confessed: “We had luck on our side in that match. It was not easy at all, but we thank God that we won. I also thank God that I was able to score. It means we have to work better and harder before the next match.”
