10th Ogun Boxing Hall Of Fame-Sodiq Popoola, Abiodun Sanusi, Damilola Shodipe Others Shine

It was a shining moment for Sodiq Popoola of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other youthful boxers at the recent 10th Ogun State Quarterly Boxing Hall of Fame Tournament.

Popoola emerged winner of the keenly contested 69 kilogrammes bout of the championship held in Abeokuta,the state capital,after defeating  Oladimeji Sholanke of KI Boxing Club by split decision of 3-2 points at the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja.

In the 64 kilogrammes bout, Abiodun Sanusi of Champions Boxing club out-punched Sodiq Oyakojo of Three star Boxing club while Hammed Odebiyi beat Ismail Oladimeji in the Championship’s 60 kilogrammes contest.

Ayobami Kasali of Champions Boxing club defeated Taiwo Ogunbowale of Destiny Boxing club in the 52 kilogrammes contest, while Oluwafemi Balogun of Ifo boxing club dismissed Taiwo Fajimi of KI Boxing club in 49 kilogrammes bout.

In the female category, Damilola Shodipe of Progressive Boxing club defeated Boluwatife Omishina of Destiny Boxing club in the 60 kilogrammes fight

Also, Yetunde Egunjobi of Ultimate Boxing club beat Halimot Gbadamosi of De-shield Boxing club in the 51 kilogrammes contest, while Awwal Balogun of Ifo Boxing club won against Ameh Kennneth of De-shield Boxing club in the 49 kilogrammes bout.

Chief Financial Officer of the Lagos Hall of Fame, Olawale Braimoh in a chat with Sports Day, lauded the effort of the Ogun State Boxing Association for its consistency at organizing such competition for boxers in the state but quickly urged the association to increase the level of participation of boxers in future competition.

He asked the association to expose its highly talented and skillful boxers to competitions in Lagos and other part of Nigeria for them to compete favourably with other boxers.

Also the association’s secretary,David Osuolale during unveiling of “Governor’s Belt”,for the champions of champions competition holding between December 13 and 14 in Abeokuta, said the association in partnership with two London based sporting promotional outfits is finalizing plan for the championship to determine the best of the best boxers with mouth watery prizes running into millions to be won.
