Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi has declared how delighted he was to feature as a playmaker for his team last weekend in the English Premier League, but added that he is ready to play in any position or role assigned him by the coach, Marco Silva.
While debate continues over Iwobi’s midfield role with The Toffees, with some analysts and ex-players faulting his work rate and marking efforts, the former Arsenal star confessed that he loved playing as an attacking midfielder in his side’s 2-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday.
After making his fourth league start for Everton against West Ham United and was shortlisted for man of the match, Iwobi stressed that he is most comfortable playing in the number ten role but has stressed that he is willing to play in any position he is assigned by Silva.
During his days with Arsenal, Iwobi was mostly employed as a left-side-winger, but he has also played as a center forward, support striker, right-winger and attacking midfielder for club and country, yet looked good in the playmakers’ role against The Hammers.
He set tongues wagging with his performance in the game, during which he created two chances and got 82.8 per cent accuracy of 24 passes in West Ham’s half, thereby fetching him the highest ratio among Everton’s starters, after which Iwobi confessed that he prefers playing as a No.10.
Iwobi told Everton’s official website: ”The manager told me try to get the team going forward as quickly as possible but also keep the ball and create chances and I felt I would be able to do that. That position is where I have grown up playing and where I feel most comfortable. I will play wherever I am told to but I really enjoyed it (as the playmaker).”
