Rabiu Ali Relieved With Suspended Ban

Kano Pillars’ captain, Rabiu Ali is taking delight from the shock decision by League Management Company (LMC) to suspend a ban he was handed earlier in the year for unruly conduct during the tile-play offs in Lagos.

While many Nigerian football followers have spoken out heatedly against the LMC’s decision, Ali is already looking forward to making a spirited return to action with his club for their clash against current league leaders and 2017 champions, Plateau United of Jos on Sunday.

The veteran midfielder will aim to make the best of his respite, after his 12-match ban was lifted and the Pillars’ skipper vowed that he will give everything to ensure Sai Masu Gida bounce back to reckoning, following poor results of recent, including a loss at home.

The chain of poor results have left the four-time champions second from bottom of the Nigerian top-flight table with two points from four matches, but Ali urged the highly successful northern team’s fans to remain calm and patient with the City of Groundnuts Pyramids team.

Pillars’ spokesman, Idris Mailikawa admitted the team is happy to have Ali back, as they have struggled playing without him, since his ban for accosting a referee during the last match of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super-6 contest at Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Mailikawa disclosed in a press statement: “Rabiu will be back in action for our matchday 6 clash at Plateau United.”

The Pillars’ media officer released the press statement after LMC declared: “Upon review of the matter, and having considered your past record in the league and the national teams coupled with the community service you rendered recently as directed by the LMC, the remaining period of your ban is hereby commuted to a suspended sentence with effect from MatchDay 6 of the season.

“You are required as part of the commutation to contribute to community engagement and development, including visiting schools to promote the good virtues associated with the game of football. We trust that you will, by your acts and conducts, set good example for others going forward.”
