Former Super Eagles’ midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi could be on his way back to Italy, as an offer has come his way at Italian Serie A returnees, Crotone, who currently have fellow-Nigerian 2018 World Cup fringe player, Simeone Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) on their cards.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, with Ogenyi under the same players’ management agency with ‘Simy,’ the chances of him teaming up with the younger Nigerian star look very bright for the former SS Lazio of Italy ace midfielder, who has battled series of injuries in recent time.
Information on offer from The Land of The Azzurri revealed that the Nigeria 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup silver medalist who has also played for Trabzonspor and Denzilispor of Turkey could as early as this midweek seal the deal with Nwankwo’s newly-promoted club.
The report by Tuttomercatoweb revealed that the 27-year old Onazi should complete the move as a free agent on Wednesday, as Crotone are eager to quickly wrap up all negotiations that were first opened in July.
With pre-season preparations now set in motion this week, Crotone are eager to wrap up their agreement with Onazi, who parted ways with Denzilispor last month, with one game left to play in the Turkish Super Lig with the club he teamed up with after leaving Trabzonspor, which he joined from Lazio in August 2016, then scored seven goals for in 79 league appearances.
It is a fresh opening for Onazi, who was initially said to be on the verge of joining Sadiq Umar at Partizan Belgrade of Serbia this summer; after he left Denzilispor before the conclusion of his one-and-half-year contract.
An additional report by allnigeriasoccer.com noted: “There is talk of an imminent agreement between Onazi and Crotone who were promoted to the Italian top-flight last term after finishing second in the Serie B. The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations-winning midfielder is on the lookout for a new club after terminating his contract with Denizlispor last month due to unpaid wages.
“Before joining Denizlispor in January 2020, Onazi wore the colours of Trabzonspor for three and a half seasons. The 27-year-old made 110 appearances for Lazio, scoring 7 goals spread across four seasons and represented the club in the Europa League and Champions League qualifying rounds.”
