2022 World Cup: Nigeria’s Sunday Oliseh names country to win tournament

Date:

Former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, has backed Senegal to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Oliseh believes Senegal is the only African country that can win the World Cup this year.

Recall that Senegal qualified for the 2022 World Cup after beating Mohamed Salah-led Egypt in a penalty shootout in the playoff on Tuesday.

Senegal is also the current AFCON holder, having won the competition in Cameroon in February.

“There’s one team that can win it [World Cup] in Africa and that’s Senegal,” Oliseh told The COSAFA Show.

“I’ve been following them for the past few years and watching the players in Europe, and the importance that they bring to their clubs. Senegal currently has the best goalkeeper in the world [Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy].

They also have one of the best central defenders in the world in Kalidou Koulibaly.

“And then they’ve Sadio Mane, and I don’t need to say any more about him. They also have an African coach [Aliou Cisse] that has been there for eight years now.

“So they’ve continuity, they have the talent and the exposure, all that is lacking in this team, in my opinion, is that high-level organisation. They need to go there with the view that they can win it.”
