Favour Ofili races to new 7.25s 60m indoor personal best

Nigeria’s Favour Ofili scorched to a new 7.25 seconds personal best to place fourth in the women’s 60m at the Purple Tiger invitational held at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse at Baton Rouge.

The 19 year old, competing in her first 60m indoors first ran 7.27seconds to finish behind Aleia Hobbs to qualify for the final as one of the five fastest losers.

She returned for the final to further lower her personal best in the event. Her 7.25 seconds run placed her fourth in a race Hobbs won with a 7.10 seconds world lead.

The time also shot her up to 13th in the Nigerian all-time list for the event, tying Beatrice Utondu.

Chioma Ajunwa holds the Nigerian record in the event at 7.02 seconds.

The African 200m indoor record holder is one of the athletes Nigeria will be banking on to deliver podium appearances at both the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA this summer.

Last year she sets new personal bests in the 200m (22.75 indoors and 22.23 outdoor) and 400m (51.49).

She was a World Junior bronze medal winner in the 4x100m relays and 200m as well as a gold medal winner in the women’s 4x400m relays.
