The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has stated that the 2023 Federation Cup will kick off in May.
The kick off date was unveiled in their communique released after their board meeting on Monday in Abuja. The release stated that the FA Cup will start a week before the end of the current Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season. According to the calendar released by the Interim Management Committee the body in charge of the league, the 2023 abridged NPFL season will kicked off in January will end in May.
The communique reads: “In affirming that the grand finale of this year’s Federation Cup competition will hold a week before the last matches of the Nigeria Premier Football League season, the Executive Committee stated that this will allow the winner to prepare adequately for the task of flying the country’s flag creditably at the CAF Confederation Cup. It observed that failure to adhere to the calendar/lack of any in the past few years was the principal reason for Nigeria’s recent poor show in continental club competitions.
Recall that the 2022 Federation Cup was inconclusive and no winners was announced by the NFF.
