2023 FIFA WWC: Super Falcons boss Waldrum targets knockout stage

Date:

Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has revealed his team’s ambition for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Waldrum’s charges surrendered their African crown to South Africa last year and are winless in their last five outings.

Despite constant criticisms of his team, the American is upbeat about the chances of the West Africans heading to the World Cup.

“The first target for us at the World Cup is to advance out of the group stage,” Waldrum told the nff.com.

“Everyone wants to get to the knockout stage but obviously in order to achieve that, you have to advance out of the group and now, our focus is principally on doing that.”

The Super Falcons are drawn in Group A along with co-hosts Australia, Canada and the Republic of Ireland.

The team will be domiciled in Brisbane where they will play two of their three matches, with the other game in another Australian city, Melbourne.

The competition will run from July 20 to August 20, 2023.
