The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in their first game of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Ademola Lookman grabbed a brace while Victor Osimhen came off the bench to help Nigeria’s Super Eagles to a comfortable 3-0 victory for Nigeria.

The win propels Nigeria to the top of Group D as they set their sights on the next match against Rwanda, scheduled for Tuesday, September 10.
It serves as a confidence booster for the Nigerian side that struggled against the Cheetahs when they met recently in a 2026 World Cup qualifying game. Gernot Rohr’s side came from behind to win that one 2-1.
