52 Confirmed Athletes and 9 Standby make Provisional List for Team MVP Season 2 Grand Finale in Calabar

A provisional list announcing MTN CHAMPS’ Team MVP Top 52 athletes has been released ahead of the MTN CHAMPS Season 2 Grand Final holding in Calabar from 30th April to 3rd May, 2024, at the U.J Esuene Stadium in Cross River State.

Alongside the initial 52 athletes that have been confirmed for Team MVP, there are further 9 athletes on the Standby list whose participation as Team MVP will be determined after MTN CHAMPS Jos is concluded this week.

The list of Most Valuable Performers (MVPs) were drawn from the first two locations where MTN CHAMPS Season 2 was staged (Asaba, Ibadan) and the last location of Season 1 (Abuja). The list comprises athletes in the Cadet (U14), Youth (U17) and Junior categories. In total, up to 70 athletes are expected to be selected for Team MVP across the first three events of this season, as well as the grand final in season 1.

All athletes on the confirmed list must email admin@makingofchamps.com urgently by Wednesday 24th April to confirm (1) if they will be accepting the invitation to Calabar, (2) which city they will be travelling from AND (3) which events they will compete in at the Grand Final (no more than 3 of which only 2 can be track events).

MTN CHAMPS Verification Process for ‘Team MVP’ to Grand Final (and ‘Team MTN’ to MoC Academy)

Official Requirements for all Cadet (U14) and Youth (U17) Athletes to be sponsored to join ‘Team MVP’ at the MTN CHAMPS Grand Final, and to be considered to join ‘Team MTN’ at the MoC Athletics Academy – we require 4 sets of documents in total (3 from your parents as well as supporting information from your current or most recent school), as follows:

(1): Original birth certificate AND any other proof of age at least 5 years old (recently produced certificates not accepted).

(2) and (3): Official records, leaving certificates or exam results from the last 2 stages of education that you have completed (from SSCE, JSCE, Primary and Nursery School).

(4): Official school records/reports confirming your enrollment for each of the last 3 years (or your most recent 3 years in Secondary School).

Junior (U20) Athletes to be sponsored for Team MVP to the Grand Final must also produce all the above documents, particularly if they wish to be considered to join Team MTN at the MoC Athletics Academy. For the purposes of joining Team MVP at the Grand Final, for Junior (U20) Athletes no longer in school who may have some difficulty in obtaining all the above documents, if they have an International Passport already it will also be accepted for the Grand Final.

MTN CHAMPS reserves the right to request any Athlete to compete in a higher Age Group at all of our Events (e.g. Cadet to Youth/Junior, Youth to Junior/Senior, OR Junior to Senior), IF they are not able to satisfactorily produce in good faith all the required documents available to complete the verification process before the final list for Team MVP for the Season 2 Grand Final is announced by Monday 22nd April for MTN CHAMPS Abuja (Season 1), Asaba & Ibadan (Season 2) participants, and by Saturday 27th April for Jos participants!

If any Athlete does not meet our eligibility requirements or declines to continue the process, the next Athlete on our Top 100 rankings for Season 2 will be extended the invitation instead.

Athletes in Senior Secondary 3 (SS3) who have been invited to compete in Team MVP but are unable to do so because of their school commitments will be given a chance to compete at future editions of MTN CHAMPS.
