9th UBTH CMD Cup Kicks Off in Benin as Enabulele Pledges Continued Support for Sports Development

It was a thrilling atmosphere at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) Sports Complex as the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, graced the opening ceremony of the 9th edition of the UBTH Annual Interprofessional/Veterans Football Championship, popularly known as the CMD Cup, which kicked off on Friday in Benin City.

The championship, which brings together professionals from various sectors, has continued to serve as a strong platform for promoting unity, networking, and sportsmanship within and beyond the medical community.

In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Hon. Enabulele commended the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, for her unwavering commitment to sustaining the tournament.

He applauded her exceptional leadership in keeping the CMD Cup vibrant and impactful, creating a unique avenue where professionals can compete, interact, and celebrate the unifying power of sports.

Represented by the Executive Director (Edo North), Hon. Frank Ilaboya, the Executive Chairman reaffirmed the Commission’s steadfast commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sporting excellence and strengthen community engagement across Edo State.

This year’s edition features, a diverse group of participants, including corporate organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, veterans’ groups, and sports clubs.

In addition, outstanding players and teams will be honoured with prestigious individual awards, including Most Valuable Player (MVP), Top Scorer, Best Goalkeeper, Best Coach, and the Fair Play Team Award.
