Enyimba of Aba coach, Usman Abdallah has admitted that he and his colleagues in the club’s technical crew know next to nothing about their opening round opponents in the CAF Champions League qualifiers, but says they will prepare well to scale the hurdle against their ‘unknown’ foes from Burkina Faso.
Speaking ahead of The Peoples’ Elephant’s fixture against Rahimo FC, Abdallah acknowledged that they are meeting a club that can be called minnows on the continental terrain, but assured that the Aba-based Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions will not take their opponents for granted.
The soft-spoken gaffer added during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that Enyimba have already commenced preparations for the first leg, which comes up August 10th, as he says they cannot afford to relax and then get caught unawares when the chips come down.
He also assured that the players will put in their very best during the upcoming home and away fixtures, as they aim to make the best of their return to the Champions League after a four-year absence.
The winner on aggregate between Enyimba and Rahimo will face either Al-Hillal of Sudan or Rayon Sports from Rwanda in the second round for a place in the group stage of the African elite clubs’ soccer championship, and Abdallah says his team will be among the numbers.
Abdallah said: “We are preparing. W e are working hard to prepare for that match in August, because we want to start well in the Champions League.
“We don’t know much about Rahimo, but that does not mean we should take them for granted. We have to be prepared for them; and that’s what we are doing.”
