Abdallah, Ogunbote State Varying Views After Clash

Enyimba of Aba coach, Usman Abdallah and Rangers International of Enugu gaffer, Gbenga Ogunbote were left expressing divergent views on Tuesday, after their sides locked horns in a pulsating Oriental Derby to set action rolling in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super-6 at Agege Stadium, Lagos.

With Enyimba carrying the day 1-0, Abdallah was understandably the only one excited between the two respected coaches, while The Flying Antelopes’ coach, Ogunbote was left ruing what went wrong.

Abdallah said he was happy to start on a winning note, which he said was a realisation of his plans before leaving Aba for the play-off competition at The Soccer Temple, but Ogunbote consoled himself by stating that it is just the beginning, and four more matches still lie ahead of them.

Action resumes on Thursday, when Rangers tango Lobi Stars, Pillars face Enyimba and Akwa United tackle FC Ifeanyiubah, ahead of which the duo of Ogunbote and Abdallah are already making their varying plans again.

Ogunbote stated: “It is a setback, not a disaster. We still have four more matches to play. We will go back and check what went wrong. We will then return for our next match and hope to make a statement.”

Abdallah added: “We are happy with the way we started. We came with a target to win, and we put ourselves on course. It is a bright start for us.

“We want to be champions of Nigeria again, as we have done in the past, and I believe we can be champions.”
