About Philippe Coutinho’s Move To Arsenal.

ARSENAL are not trying to sign Philippe Coutinho on loan ahead of Thursday’s deadline, despite reports in France to the contrary.

L’Equipe journalist Bilel Ghazi claimed the Barcelona struggler is poised to head for the Emirates Stadium within the next 48 hours.

Coutinho has endured a torrid time in Catalonia since securing his dream move to the Nou Camp from Liverpool.

The £142m club-record transfer has been nothing short of a failure.

And Barcelona are actively looking to shift the Brazilian on as they prepare for the new season.

A return to the Premier League has been mooted for the former Anfield hero, who is still regarded highly in English football.

However, with regards to the Arsenal rumours, Starsport understands the Gunners have not shown an interest in the Barcelona playmaker.

There is no truth behind the link to Unai Emery’s side, which is already awash with attacking talent.

Fans have been calling for further defensive reinforcements ahead of Thursday’s 5pm cut-off.

“Arsenal have repeatedly denied holding any interest”

The reports of Coutinho joining subsequently came as a real shock, especially following the £72m signing of Nicolas Pepe last week.

It is understood the Coutinho claims, with a two-year loan suggested to be on the cards, are ‘nonsense’.

Arsenal have repeatedly denied holding any interest in the ex-Liverpool creator.

The 27-year-old’s future remains unclear given his troubled stint in La Liga, but he won’t be plying his trade at the Emirates Stadium this term.

Arsenal are, though, looking to add a centre-half in the next 48 hours.

Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney is also still on their radar with a £25m switch possible.
