Abraham Deserves Instant England Invitation – Lampard

Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard has declared emphatically that his club’s rave of the moment, Tammy Abraham deserves an instant invitation to England’s national team, due to the lad’s current stunning goals scoring form.

Lampard reiterated that he was truly excited seeing the Nigerian-born striker net a hat-trick last weekend against Wolverhampton Wanderers, thereby helping The Blues snatch an unexpected 5-2 away win and, with the lanky lad now having scored seven goals in his last three games, the London club’s gaffer says The Three Lions need the striker’s scoring form to lift them high.

Incidentally, Abraham is also wanted by Nigeria, with officials making frantic efforts to get him cap-tied with the Super Eagles and, though he has already played for England at senior level, his two appearances came in friendlies against Germany and Brazil in 2017.

This means Abraham, who was left out of last England squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo, could still switch allegiance to Nigeria and recently admitted he could be tempted by a call-up, but Lampard is now making a frenetic demand of a senior recall for the dark-skinned attacker, who played for his country of birth at this summer’s European Under-21 Championships, but the gaffer admits interest from the Eagles is inevitable.

The Blues’ gaffer, who himself is a legend of the club, as he made top marks for the team during his playing days at Stamford Bridge, noted that the 21-year-old Abraham has silenced the early doubts about his English Premier League quality with his recent goal spree and is sure to get a sterner test of his abilities in the UEFA Champions League.

Lampard stressed: “He has put himself in the bracket for England by being the top scorer at this point so it’s one for Gareth [England manager Gareth Southgate]. I wouldn’t want to step on his toes but it’s clear from what Tammy is doing he will be wanted.

“I never had any clear expectations for him only the fact I believed in him and trusted him. I know a lot has been made of the ban and giving young players potential opportunities but I felt the time was right for Tammy to have his opportunity at this club anyway because of the quality he has got.

“I’m really delighted he has got his goals. I think there is more to come. So he is in a good place. He just needs to sustain and improve even more and with his mentality every day and the way he is I hope to see that.”
