Abraham Has Much To Offer England – Southgate

Chelsea of England striker, Tammy Abraham has received another strong assurance that he is still in line to star for his country of birth, as the national team’s coach, Gareth Southgate says the lad has a lot that he can offer The Three Lions in the near future.

In what is ostensibly a smart move to keep Abraham’s mind off any thought about switching allegiance to play for Nigeria instead of England, Southgate stressed that the gangling Chelsea number nine is very much in his plans, and served a strong hint that the former Burnley, Swansea City and Aston Villa hitman will be included in his next roster.

The poignant declaration by Southgate comes as another reaction to reports that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Melvin Amaju Pinnick has gained a promise from Abraham about his chances of joining the Eagles in April 2020, as the soccer boss opined that the striker would have a better chance of getting games with his father’s country than with the nation of his birth.

Dramatically, though, Southgate went on to reveal that he actually admires Abraham’s style of play and pointed out that he did not call the lanky lad up for the past international break simply because he wanted him to settle down into his first full season with Chelsea, for which he has since scored four goals in his first four matches of the new EPL season.

Southgate said: “Tammy is a young player that we’ve always liked; we know he’ll score goals. We felt it was a bit early this time to call him up, but we really can see that he can offer us something moving forward.

“We gave him a cap back in November of 2017. For sure, we need to make certain that he feels that the opportunity is going to be there. I’m pretty sure he does, he knows us well enough.”
