Roma Tammy Abraham is being linked to a return to Aston Villa in the premier league where he enjoyed a productive loan spell during the 2018-19 season.

Abraham was on fire, combining well with Jack Grealish and John McGinn as Aston Villa recovered from a slow start to win promotion via the play-offs.

Despite heavy investment during the transfer window, Villa are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the top division and could do with a boost in January.

Abraham made a big impression in his first season at Roma, scoring 27 goals in all competitions for his new club.

He even helped them become the first winners of the Europa Conference League, beating Feyenoord 1-0 in the final thanks to Nicolo Zaniolo’s clever finish from close range.

Moving to the Stadio Olimpico last summer seemed to have revitalised Abraham’s career after falling out of favour at Chelsea.

He had dropped down the pecking order following a series of high-profile signings and sought a fresh start in the Italian capital.

Signed for £34million on a five-year contract, Mourinho made it clear that he had faith in Abraham’s ability to adapt to the demands of Serie A and believed he could fire the team to success.

That seemed to be the case until a promising debut season gave way to disappointment, costing Abraham a place in England’s World Cup squad.

Doubts have begun to resurface about the 25-year-old’s resilience and consistency having found the net just once in his last nine league appearances.
