ABU President Lionize Imadu On Boxing Development In Nigeria

President of the African Boxing Union Houichi Houicine has praised the CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions Omonlei Yakubu Imadu for his immense contributions to the development of amateur boxing in Nigeria. Houichi made this known on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa Boxing Union convention in Kampala Uganda.

Houicine who also doubles as the vice president of the World Boxing Council (WBC) said he and his team have been following Imadu’s strides in developing amateur boxing in Nigeria and they believes he should be encouraged to stay on cause.

The ABU President in his address to the Yucateco boss said, ” you are doing a great job for boxing not only Nigeria but also in the continent, the boxing league you initiated in Nigeria will change the dwelling narrative of the sports in your country in a few years”, my team and i are truly interested in what you are doing with the Yucateco Boxing League and we are open to whatever support you may require from us going forward”.

Imadu who was recently elected as the president of the Boxing Promoters Association Nigeria (BPAN) also met with the Hon. Minister of State for Sports, Uganda Ministry of Sports Development. The President of the Uganda Professional Boxing Commission, and other top dignitaries.

The BPAN boss is attending the ABU convention with his vice president Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Waheed, the founder of De Lads Boxing Promotions, as well as other executive members of the recently inaugurated board.

Some of the motives for attending the convention by the leadership of the Boxing Promoters Association Nigeria (BPAN) is to allow the body to network with the key stakeholders in the global boxing circle for further development of the sports in Nigeria, as well as to broadens the technical know-how of their ring officials.

The ABU convention which commenced on Sunday 18th will end on Friday August 23rd in Kampala.
