Adarabioyo Dons Eagles Shirt For Nigeria’s Independence

Manchester City youth team defender, Tosin Adarabioyo has hinted in a very dramatic style at the possibility of him opting to play for the Super Eagles at international level, following his shock decision to don the Nigerian jersey in marking the country’s 59th year of independence.

Adarabioyo has not disclosed any hint before now in his thoughts about switching allegiance from England to star for his father’s country, but he on Tuesday joined several other Nigerian soccer stars in celebrating the nation’s Independence Day, October 1st.

The youngster, who is currently on loan from Etihad Stadium to Blackburn Rovers, noted that Nigeria’s celebrations of freedom from Britain’s colonial rule in 1960 coincides with the global celebration of Black History Day, hence his decision to be part of the epoch-making occasion.

Born and named Abdul-Nasir Oluwatosin Oluwadoyinsolami Adarabioyo on September 24, 1997 in England, the sibling of Fisayo Adarabioyo, who plays for FC U Craiova 1948, joined Man City’s youth team at the age of five.

He made his under-18 debut for the club aged 14 and captained the squad at 16, after which he got his biggest leap on February 24, 2016, when he made his first team bow in an FA Cup match against Chelsea.

He made his UEFA Champions League debut on August 24, 2016 as a substitute in a 1–0 win over Steaua București of Romania, then joined West Bromwich Albion on loan for the 2018/2019 season, before moving to Blackburn on similar terms this past July.

Although he has represented England up to under-19 national team level, Adarabioyo proved on Tuesday that he has thoughts about Nigeria, as he took to social media to celebrate the country’s day of independence, along with several of the Eagles’ regular team players.

Adarabioyo stated: “The 1st of October marks Nigerian Independence Day as well as the start of #BlackHistoryMonth. It was only right that I pulled out the most iconic Nigeria shirt from the 2018 World Cup!”
