AFCON 2019: Algeria Beat Ivory Coast 4-3 On Penalties, Set For Semifinal Clash Against Super Eagles.

The Desert Foxes of Algeria on Thursday at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt

defeated Cote d’Ivoire 5-4 on penalties to set up a semifinal clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeia on sunday.

Algeria took the lead through ex-West Ham winger, Sofiane Feghouli’s side-foot finish before they missed a penalty.

Ivory Coast forced extra time after Aston Villa forward Jonathan Kodjia’s low finish but, after no further goals, the tie was decided by penalties.

The scoreline was 1-1 after 120 minutes before the shootout saw Mohamed Youcef Belaili missed his kick while Wilfried Bonny and Captain Geoffroy Serey Die missed theirs to ensure the Algerians go through.

Algeria, seeking a first AFCON triumph since 1990, will now meet Nigeria in Cairo on Sunday (20:00 BST).
