AFCON 2021 final: Jay Jay Okocha reacts as Egypt make demand to CAF

Date:

Former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, has insisted that Egypt have nothing to reserve ahead of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, final clash with Senegal on Sunday night in Cameroon.

Okocha does not believe Egypt are at a disadvantage heading into the AFCON final tie against Senegal this weekend despite all their knockout games going into extra time and the Teranga Lions having an extra day to prepare.

DAILY POST reports that this is coming less than two days after Egypt assistant coach, Diaa Al-Sayed called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF), to push their 2021 AFCON final against Senegal to Monday.

Al-Sayed feels Egypt deserve more time to rest for the final, which is scheduled for Sunday.

He was speaking to the media after the Pharaohs needed a penalty shoot-out to beat hosts Cameroon in their semi-final on Thursday night.

However, previewing the AFCON final on SuperSport, Okocha said: “They [Egypt] have nothing to reserve. It’s just one game and they know that if they get it right, they will go out of this tournament as winners.

“I don’t think fatigue will be any problem, you know that you have done ever so well to get to this stage.

“You know you have to give everything, you don’t even think about going back to your club, whatever you want to go back as a hero, so I don’t think fatigue will come to play.”
