Liverpool are reportedly hoping to tempt Gavi away from Barcelona with a contract offer of €4m (£3.4m) per year.
The 17-year-old has enjoyed his breakthrough season in Catalan colours during the 2021-22 campaign but now has less than 18 months left to run on his contract at Camp Nou.
Barcelona are desperate to tie Gavi down to fresh terms, but their long-standing financial problems could make it difficult for Xavi’s side to keep hold of the teenager for the long term.
According to El Nacional, Barca can offer Gavi a higher salary than what he currently earns, but Liverpool have upped their bid to a weekly wage of approximately £65,000 and a signing-on fee of €10m (£8.4m).
The report adds that Liverpool are more than happy to fork out the €50m (£43m) to trigger Gavi’s release clause, while Chelsea are also preparing to take advantage of La Blaugrana’s financial despair.
Gavi has registered two goals and three assists in 26 appearances for Barcelona this term and has already earned four caps for the Spain national team.
