AFCON 2023: Iwobi wants to emulate ‘uncle’ Okocha by winning title

Date:

Alex Iwobi hopes to emulate his uncle, Austin Jay Jay Okocha by winning the African Cup of Nations, AFCON, title.

Okocha was part of the Super Eagles side that won the AFCON in Tunisia in 1994.

Iwobi came close to matching the former midfielder’s feat when the Super Eagles made it to semi-finals five years ago in Egypt but they were eliminated by eventual winners Algeria.

With the Super Eagles set to compete again at Cote d’Ivoire 2023, the Fulham man is desperate to have his hand around trophy.

“I know my uncle has won it, and I’d like to have one to my name as well,” the former Everton player told BeIN Sports.

“Obviously, we have the quality to do so, and hopefully we can do that, and I want to brag to him as well.”
