AFCON 2023 qualifiers: Super Eagles to face Sao Tome after CAF kicked out Mauritius

Date:

The Super Eagles will now do battle with Sao Tome and Principe after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) kicked out Mauritius from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.

Soa Time and Principe will now join Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau in Group A after CAF upheld their appeal against Mauritius’s protest that they fielded an illegible player in a qualifying clash between the two countries.

CAF also ruled out that the São Tomé and Príncipe Football Association shall be reimbursed the Appeal fees.

The Falcons were initially thrown out of the qualifiers after captain Luis Leal failed to provide a valid Covid-19 test result before their preliminary round clash against the Dodos in March

Andriano Eusebio’s side will confront the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in their first game in the qualifiers.

They will host the Super Eagles at home on June 13 in Rabat, Morocco as their home ground, Estadio Nacional 12 de Julho is not approved to host international matches by CAF and FIFA.
