The winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco will receive $10 million in prize money, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe disclosed this on Saturday following a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Rabat, Morocco, on the eve of the tournament’s kick-off.

The AFCON Morocco 2025 tournament is scheduled to run from Sunday, December 21, 2025, to Sunday, January 18, 2026.

In a statement on CAF’s website, the continental body said the prize money for the winner represents a 43 per cent increase from the 2023 edition, when hosts Côte d’Ivoire received $7 million.

CAF noted that the prize fund has doubled within four years, underscoring a significant upward review of rewards at Africa’s flagship football competition.

Winners of the TotalEnergies AFCON Cameroon 2021 earned $5 million, before the prize rose to $7 million at Côte d’Ivoire 2023 and now $10 million in 2025, marking a 100 per cent increase.

CAF added that the runners-up at AFCON 2025 will earn $4 million, while the two losing semi-finalists will each receive $2.5 million.

The continental body said the increment is part of broader efforts to enhance the tournament’s value, competitiveness and global appeal.
