Djuturs of Guinea Bissau put one foot into the 2023 African Cup of Nations on Wednesday after securing an away win against Sao Tome and Principe.
Before the game, the Guineans were a point behind Nigeria’s Super Eagle with 7 points but moved top of the group with the win.
Sao Tome took the game to the Guineans from the blast of the whistle and the first half was keenly contested and ended in a scoreless affair.
The away side seized control of the game in the second half and got the required goal in the 55th minute through Zinho’s strike.
The host threatened to come back into the game but found the backline of Guinea-Bissau difficult to topple as the game ended 0-1.
The win takes Guinea Bissau to the top of the group with 10 points and Super Eagle dropped to the second spot with 9 points.
Super Eagles will face Sierra Leone on Sunday and a draw will secure a qualification ticket to the competition in Ivory Coast.
