Interim coach Austin Eguavoen is confident that the Super Eagles have enough depth to overcome the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) double-header, even in the absence of star striker Victor Osimhen, who is sidelined with an injury.
Nigeria will host the North Africans on Friday in Uyo, with the away fixture scheduled for next Tuesday.
Speaking ahead of the encounters, coach Eguavoen admitted that the sum total of the team is good enough to grind positive results as the team strives to maintain their pole position in Group D of the qualifiers.
The Super Eagles have taking four points from their opening two matches following a 3-0 win at home against Republic of Benin and a goalless draw away to Rwanda in September.
“It’s a collective efforts and it’s a team sport and not an individual sport,” said Eguavoen on the non-availability of the injured Galatasaray striker.“ We are in touch with him and we all understand; it’s a huge miss and we all know important and the impact Osimhen can give.
“ But we have other players who can step into his shoes
“Though he is not here physically with us but I’m hundred percent sure he’s here spiritually with us, “ the former Nigeria international defender told the NFF Tv.
