AFCON: Super Eagles Storm Cameroon, Ighalo Ruled Out

The Super Eagles have landed in Garoua, Cameroon ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off on Sunday, January 9, 2022.

The Nigerian national team arrived aboard a chartered flight from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja with all but three invited players ahead of Nigeria’s opener against Egypt next week Tuesday.

Defenders, Tyrone Ebuehi of Venezia of Italy and Jamilu Collins of Paderborn of Germany will join the rest of the squad in Garoua, while Saudi Arabia-based Odion Ighalo is completely ruled out of the competition after his club, Al-Shabab of Saudi Arabia, barred him due to a clause in his contract with the club.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation has said Ighalo will not be replaced.

“We have arrived Garoua, here for the prize.” The team confirmed their arrival on the Super Eagles official Instagram page late Wednesday night.

Nigeria will battle Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan in the group D of the Afcon tournament.
