Flying Eagles defender, Daniel Kolocho Bameyi, has revealed that the team’s performance against the Gambia is crucial.
The Nigeria under-20 team defeated Egypt and Mozambique to earn all six points in the group round. They then defeated the tenacious hippos of Uganda in the quarterfinals to proceed to the semifinals.
The under-20 captain did not participate in Ladan Bosso’s team’s quarterfinal triumph, yet he has stated that the squad has to defeat Abdoulie Bojang’s side in order to advance.
The Flying Eagles, who are on pace to win their eighth title, won their seventh gold medal in 2015. Bameyi, who led the squad to victory against the tournament’s host, said that the team’s goal is to bring the trophy home.
“The match is important for us, and winning is very important. We want to win and take the trophy back to our country,” the 17-year-old said, as quoted by CAFonline.
The Gambian squad has won all of its games thus far in the competition, claiming all of the group stage points, and thrashing South Sudan in the quarterfinals.
The Flying Eagles’ number 6 acknowledged the danger posed by the opposition but insisted that there is no pressure on the squad.
