AFCON U20: Gambia Coach Eyes Though Semi-final Test Against Flying Eagles

Date:

Head coach of Gambia U20 team Abdoulie Bojang has stated that his side is only focused on Nigeria after beating South Sudan to clinch a World Cup ticket on Saturday.

The Young Scorpions thrashed tournament debutants South Sudan 5-0 in Alexandria to maintain their unbeaten run in this year’s competition in Egypt.

Gambian’s next opponents are Nigeria, who booked their place in the semifinals after defeating Uganda 1-0 in the second quarter-final fixture on Friday night.

Speaking in a post-match press conference after the victory over South Sudan, the coach highlighted the importance of their next game against the Flying Eagles.

“The next opponent is Nigeria. It’s a very important game now we have to forget about the South Sudan game.

“We’ve already qualified, now we’re looking for the gold medal but we have to beat Nigeria, so we can reach the final and clinch the gold.

“As I said earlier, we have to take it game by game. The next most important game is Nigeria,” he stated.

Gambia will lock horns with the Flying Eagles at the Cairo International Stadium on Monday night, a fixture which is set to be the two sides second-ever meeting with Nigeria coming victorious in the first encounter 2-0.
