Afelokhai Rules Out Bitter Rivalry With Ezenwa

Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper, Theophilus Afelokhai has rule out any form of bitter rivalry between him and Heartland of Owerri returnee, Ikechukwu Ezenwa over who mans the post for the home-based Eagles in this weekend’s Championship of African Nations (CHAN 2020) final qualifier away to Togo.

Although he admits he would love to get the nod to start in goal for the Eagles’ B-squad, and promised to do a good job if called upon, Afelokhai admitted that Ezenwa can equally do well, if given the nod by the coach in charge, Imama Amnpakabo, for him to man the sticks in Lome.

The former Sunshine Stars of Akure and Lobi Stars of Makurdi shot-stopper went on to declare that he and Ezenwa are like brothers, with each always motivating the other, which he says is again the same spirit they have taken into their latest camping experience together, as they aim to help Nigeria qualify for next year’s CHAN in Cameroon.

He added that the brotherly love they keep on showing adds to the healthy atmosphere they enjoy in camp, while also challenging each other to improve in the best way possible, which he believes is all for the good of the national team and Nigeria’s image in the round leather game.

Afelokhai stressed: “There is no bitter rivalry between us. Ezenwa and I are friends. In fact, we are like brothers. We are one family when we are in camp, and we always doing things together.

“Yes, I will like to be in goal, the same for him, but we know anyone of us that is called on will, do well. If I am in goal, I will do well, which is the same for him. If he is in goal, he will also do well.

“That’s the same spirit we arfe taking to Togo this weekend, because we want our country to win away. We are playing for the Nigeria and we will work together, not to challenge each other.”
