The Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, has postponed to a later date its first National 10km Cross Country Championships earlier scheduled to hold this weekend in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state.
The AFN says the postponement became necessary following complaints by athletes that the January 28 date for the event is too close to the gold label Lagos Marathon which holds in Lagos on Saturday February 4, 2023.
In a letter dated January 25, 2023 and signed by its Secretary General, Rita Moshindi, the AFN says a new date will be fixed for the competition.
”This postponment is as a results of pleas made by the concerned athletes on the grounds that is to close to the Lagos Access City Marathon scheduled for February
4,2023. The new date of the National Cross Country will be communicated in due course,’ read the letter inter-alia.
The AFN also says it is only the National 10km Cross Country Championships that has been postpopned and not its Annual General Congress which was schdeuled to take place along with the championships in Jalingo.
‘The AFN Annual General Congress which was schdeuled to take place along with the National Cross Country on January 28,2023 in Jalingo , Taraba State will
now hold,’ said the AFN.
The congress will still hold on Saturday January 28 but the venue has been changed to Abuja. Delegates are scheduled to arrive a day earlier.
