US based football club owner in Nigeria and huge sponsor and investor in grassroots football, Akanji Agboola has called on government at different levels to pay more attention to the grassroots tasking them to return to what worked for the country in the past.
The admirable smooth- talking Magic FC of Lagos President, charged the government to do much more in this regards to ameliorate the pains and burden private individuals who are into this go through in trying to give a future to these gifted youths with budding talents.
Agboola made this passionate appeal at their ongoing 8- team scouting program at the Legacy Pitch, Surulere, Lagos.
According to him, when players are learning what they are supposed to learn at age 5 at age 20, it’s difficult for them to match their peers.
“Our government in this part of the world really needs to do more at the grassroots level.
“While growing up there used to be many grassroots and development tournaments in the past in the country but I don’t know what went wrong.
“A situation where players learn what they are supposed to learn at age 5 at age 20 doesn’t augur well, he said.
“The private individuals who also try to help out in this regards spend a lot of money in doing so.
“Governments at different levels can actually do more to lessen the burden that these private individuals go through”, he concluded
FC Bethel Sporting, Magic FC, Rolly FC, SGFC Athletics Sport Club, Ojodu City FC, Power of De Cross FC, Ablaze FC and Real Dreams FC are the teams that participated in the 5- day scouting program put together by Abigol Sports Management Agency and Magic Sports.
The scouting tournament will be done at least thrice every year according to organizers.
