Rangers International of Enugu got a bright start to their group campaign in the CAF Champions League, as Godwin Aguda opened the scoring in The Flying Antelopes 2-0 spanking of Burkina Faso side, Salitas FC.
The Coal City outfit proved right to their pre-match boasts, with their top scorer showing the way, before Benin Republic international defender, Isaac Loute made it two on the hour with a well-struck direct free kick.
Aguda, who captained the hosts for the match at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, opened the scoring in the second minute when he dashed into the box to chip past Salitas’ goalkeeper.
Rangers threw away several other chances including a late effort opportunity for substitute striker, Bobby Clement, who fired over the bar right in front of goal.
The Flying Antelopes’ coach, Gbenga Ogunbote said afterwards that he is happy with the victory against a highly technical and youthful squad, which he says stretched his lads to the limit.
“It is a good result for us,” said Ogunbote, “We now have more confidence to go for a good result in our next two matches against the big Tunisian clubs, Etoile and Sfaxien.”
