Nigerian strikers abroad continue to make their impact this season in Europe, as Montpellier forward Akor Jerome Adams joined the league of Nigerian record-setters abroad.

Montpellier defeated Olympique Lyonnais 1-4 at the Groupama stadium in Lyon to remain unbeaten in their first two Ligue 1 games for the first time in a dozen years after taking a 2-2 draw against Le Havre on MatchDay 1 last weekend.

Akor Adams played a critical part in both games for Montpellier while setting a Ligue 1 record for his club dating back to 2009, becoming the first player to score in his first two league games for La Paillade since Alberto Facundo Tino Costa for the club in August 2009.

Alberto Tino Costa, currently 38 years old, scored against FC Lorient and FC Sochaux in MatchDay 2 and 3 of the 2009-10 Ligue 1 season for Montpellier, when he bagged 7 goals and 7 assists in 31 league games on his debut campaign.

Akor’s two-minute brace on his debut for Montpellier secured a point for La Paillade in front of home fans, while his 89th-minute strike in the second game sealed maximum points away from home, reminiscent of 12 seasons ago when Montpellier won the Ligue 1 title.

La Paillade were unbeaten in their first set of Ligue 1 games back in the 2011-12 title-winning season when they defeated AJ Auxerre, LOSC Lille, and Rennes, 3-1, 0-1, and 4-0, respectively, before clinching their first and only title with 82 points.

Akor came to the Fench Ligue for the first time this summer after stealing his move to Montpellier on the 7th of August from Lillestrøm SK in Norway for a reported fee of €4.50 million on a four-year contract.

He came through the Jamba Football Academy in Nigeria.
