Akpeyi’s Club’s Jersey Rated World’s Second Best

Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) club are following in the creative footsteps of the Super Eagles, with a highly publicized and lavishly hailed team jersey, sequel to ratings that place their new kit second overall in the whole wide world.

While Akpeyi was thrilled to don the Eagles’ World Cup jersey at Russia 2018, despite not getting to play a single match in the stylish attire, he will make up for that by regularly wearing the impressive design from Chiefs, whose home kit for 2019/2020 has been voted second best strip overall only behind Inter Milan of Italy but ahead of Barcelona of Spain.

Akpeyi could not make the first eleven for his club’s last build-up match of the summer, but still found luck on his side and lined out from the start, in place of Bruce Bvuma, when Amakhosi’s first choice for the game hurt himself during the warm-up and had to be replaced by the former Heartland of Owerri and Warri Wolves star at the last-minute.

Akpeyi and his colleagues will continue looking resplendent this term, after Kaizer Chiefs and Nike officially unveiled the 2019/20 home and away kits, under the catchy theme #BackToBrilliance.

Observers noted that the kit is bolder than ever, saying the Chiefs’ new home jersey is confident, an instant classic and features a distinctive, stylish energetic black pattern on gold background, while the away strip is crisp white, embellished with Gold & Black trim on sleeves and neck.

Officials added that the new kit, which comes with a full range including a women’s and kids jersey, a golf shirt as well as a NK196 track top, is now available at Kaizer Chiefs retails, Nike stores and leading retailers in South Africa, while also purchasable at KC Digistore and

Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung added: “The home jersey is a new take on a classic and the design is reminiscent of the jersey worn by the team between 2011 and 2013 – the jersey saw Kaizer Chiefs win the league and the Nedbank Cup in the 2012/13 season.

“The new kit represents our vision for the new season. This year we’re resetting; resetting our minds to reignite the passion and energy of the Amakhosi.

“This is another nod to our rich history. We decided to pay tribute to our white jersey that was donned by legends and former players like Thabo Mooki, Collins Mbesuma, Jimmy Tau, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Knowledge Musona, Kaizer Motaung Jnr and Jabu Pule.”
