Amuneke: Tanzania Still Have Lots Of Work To Do

Tanzania’s national team coach, Emmnauel Amuneke has declared that the East African country still has a lot of work to do in order to get its football to the highest points on the continent.

Following his inability to get a single point for The Taifa stars at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Amuneke put the blame at the door step of his players, who he lamented were unable to manage opportunities they got in their games, and concluded that a lot of effort is still needed to make them get better.

He hinted further during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that the Tanzania players and fans also got carried away by the euphoria of their return to the continental soccer showpiece, after 30 years of their last outing at Nigeria 1980.

The 1994 Africa Footballer of The Year, however, concluded with an air of optimism that Tanzania must have learnt huge lessons at Egypt 2019, which he believes will come in handy for the country in years ahead.

He reckoned that the officials, players and fans will be able to apply the lessons learnt into various aspects of the game, especially in terms of managing success and avoiding distractions that come with success.

Amuneke affirmed: “If you don’t know how to manage your game, you pay for it. That was what happened to us.

“We came to Egypt with a lot of joy and celebration in the country, because it was long ago that they last qualified for the Nations Cup.

“Now that we have come to AFCON, we have learnt a lot o things. They hailed us when we qualified, but now they are saying other things.

“That’s the way it is, because now we have learnt that there is still more work to do. Now we know we have a lot of work to do in Tanzania.”
