Lacena Golding-Clarke says Tobi Amusan’s 100m hurdles world record run and gold medal win at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA is her proudest coaching accomplishment.

The Jamaican who won gold at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester in the high hurdles also coached Amusan to win the NCAA title in 2017 for University of Texas in El Paso (UTEP). She was UTEP’s sprint and hurdles coach at the time.

Golding-Clarke, who will be 48 in March is now coaching at her alma mater, Auburn University where she has another Nigerian, Abasiono Akpan as one of her athletes. Asked in a ‘Get To Know Lacena Golding-Clarke ‘ video interview posted on Auburn University’s Twitter page, the Jamaican listed Amusan’s feats at the Worlds as her proudest coaching accomplishment.

The 2004 Olympics finalist in the 100m hurdles (5th) also coached Amusan to fourth place finish at the 2021 Olympics and two Diamond League trophy wins. Golding-Clarke also trained the 25 year old Nigerian to two Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles titles and record.
