The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has registered more than 277,000 new members in the ongoing electronic registration exercise.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq disclosed this on Monday while receiving the party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), Alhaji Muazu Bawa, who was in Ilorin on a monitoring visit to assess the exercise.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor said Kwara currently leads other states in the North Central zone in the registration drive.

AbdulRazaq attributed the large turnout to public confidence in the APC-led administration at both the state and federal levels, linking the growing membership to what he described as good governance and people-centred policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“With over 277,000 people already registered, we are not resting on our oars. There is still room for more, and we will continue to mobilise our people despite some network challenges,” the governor said.

He commended President Tinubu for his leadership and economic reforms, noting that the policies had strengthened the party and attracted more Nigerians.

The governor also praised the APC’s national leadership and the party’s state executives for their commitment to the exercise, saying the e-registration would enhance internal democracy and the credibility of the party’s membership register.

AbdulRazaq appealed to the national leadership to extend the registration period to enable more Nigerians to participate, adding that the use of the National Identification Number (NIN) would help sanitise the party’s database.

“This exercise is unique. The NIN requirement ensures authenticity. It would have been ideal to start earlier, but we are glad it is happening now,” he said.

He further called for a more structured and financially committed party membership, in line with practices during the First Republic, to strengthen discipline and collective ownership.

AbdulRazaq added that the APC remains the dominant political party in Kwara, assuring that his administration would continue to deliver people-oriented governance.

In his remarks, Bawa praised the Kwara State Government and the state APC leadership for what he described as an impressive performance in the registration exercise.

He said Kwara currently tops the chart among North Central states, describing the turnout as unprecedented.

“I have visited Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, Niger and now Kwara. Honestly, Kwara is leading. What I have seen here is impressive and reflects the quality of leadership in the state,” Bawa said.

He added that the success recorded was a product of good governance and effective party coordination, assuring that the national leadership was satisfied with the progress.

The state APC Chairman, Sunday Fagbemi, and the State Coordinator of the e-registration exercise, Mubarak Bello, also briefed the visiting party official on the process.

Bello disclosed that over 277,000 members were registered within three weeks, expressing optimism that the figure could rise to about 400,000 if the registration window is extended.

The APC e-registration exercise is designed to update the party’s database, strengthen internal democracy and prepare the party for future elections.
