AWCON 2022 Qualifier: Super Falcons storm Abidjan

Eleven-time African women Champions Super Falcons jetted off to Cote d Ivoire on Sunday ahead of the second AWCON qualifier against the Lady Elephants on Wednesday.

Falcons who enjoyed a 2-0 victory in the first leg played at the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja go into the second leg with a huge advantage and also in a hurry to finish unfinished business.

Gotham FC of New York forward Ifeoma Onumonu who grabbed the brace in Abuja, interestingly on her debut, is eager to make it a back to back victory for the Falcons. Although the Ivorian ladies are likely to mark her out after watching her dazzle in Abuja, it may not be easy for them to subdue her the amidst strong determination.

Her blend with Rasheedat Ajibade has so far been impressive and there is no doubt that the Falcons will rise to the occasion on Wednesday, notwithstanding the absence of Captain Assisat Oshoala who is set to be on the sidelines for a while no thanks to injury.

Falcons remain the team to beat in the continent but continue to struggle in the bid to be a force at the World Stage. The team has had eight world cup appearances with the best performance being quarterfinal finish at the 1999 edition in the United States.
