Awoniyi returns to Union Berlin for pre-season duty

Date:

Taiwo Awoniyi will have a chance to say a proper goodbye to Union Berlin fans when his new club, Nottingham Forest faces the Bundesliga outfit in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, July 23rd.

Awoniyi completed his £17.5m transfer to Nottingham Forest on Saturday ending his two-year association with Union Berlin.

It was the highest transfer fee paid by the Premier League new boys on a player.

The 24-year-old linked up with Union Berlin from Liverpool for £7m, a club-record fee last summer.

The Nigerian forward spent the previous campaign on loan at the Capital club.

He scored 20 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions last season.

“With infrastructure works at The City Ground well underway in preparation for the Premier League opening home game on Saturday, 13th August, Forest will play Bundesliga team Hertha Berlin at Burton’s Pirelli Stadium on Wednesday 20th July,” a statement on Nottingham Forest’s official website said,

“Three days later, The Reds visit the Stadion An der Alten Försterei to face Union Berlin, the former club of record signing Taiwo Awoniyi, on Saturday 23rd July.”
