Ballon D’Or: Agbonlahor names AFCON star likely to win award in 2023

Date:

Aston Villa legend Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Sadio Mane of Liverpool to win this year’s ballon d’Or.

The former England striker said Mane stands the chance of winning the individual gong ahead of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Robert will of Bayern Munich.

Following Manchester City’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Real Madrid last night, attention turns to Liverpool as they host Villarreal Wednesday evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will be hoping to get a win under their belts as they seek to secure a spot in the Champions League final in Paris next month.

While neither side is guaranteed to reach the showpiece event, Agbonlahor believes that Pep Guardiola’s side will be hoping to see Liverpool knocked out of the competition in order to maximise their chances of going all the way.

“I know we look at Benzema or Lewandowski but I’m looking at Mane!

“Mane won the Africa Cup of Nations, [has] a chance of [winning] the Premier League, won the Carabao Cup, could win the FACup and UEFA Champions League.”

“I’d put Mane ahead of Salah!”
