Ben Akwuegbu Bags Most Valuable Sports Philanthropist Man of the Year 2026 at Sports Legendary Awards

Former Super Eagles forward, Benedict Akwuegbu has bagged the Most Valuable Sports Philanthropist Man of the Year 2026 award at the Sports Legendary Awards (SLA) Season 4 held recently.

The reverred Award is in recognition of his selfless humanitarian efforts towards sports development and youth empowerment which underscores his determination to drive positive change in the industry.

The well -attended ceremony, organised by Celebrity Sports Magazine, took place at the Chelsea Hotel, Central Business District, Abuja, with the crème de la crème in sports in the country in full attendance. Notably amongst the seated guests were renowned athletes, sports administrators, business leaders, policymakers, and other distinguished guests to celebrate individuals who have made meaningful contributions to Nigerian sports.

Akwuegbu, who enjoyed an illustrious football career with the Super Eagles and several European clubs, received the award for his unwavering commitment to philanthropy, youth development, and initiatives that have positively impacted communities beyond the football pitch.

Presenting the award, the organisers described Akwuegbu as a role model whose influence extends far beyond his achievements as a professional footballer. They commended his dedication to supporting young talents, promoting social causes, and using sports as a platform to inspire hope and create opportunities for the next generation.

The former ‘Austrian Bomber’ holds a Bsc hons in Heath Social Care from London University, Anglia Ruskin University and he’s currently undergoing his Masters degree program in Nursing at the same University.

There are calls in some quarters angling for the appiotment of Ben Akwuegbu into the current Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) set up.
