Sunshine Stars head coach, Kennedy Boboye has stressed that the Owena Whales are taking part in the Governor Douye Diri pre -season competition to assess the newly signed players.
Boboye told the club’s media that he would be using the tournament to gauge the level of his players preparations for the fast approaching league season.
“The preseason competition will be strictly used to assess the newly recruited players, we have received some new players in our team from other clubs, so we are going to Bayelsa to test the players,” Boboye said. “The tournament is like a build up for us ,it’s not a must win for our side, but if it comes, we will take it.”
“The most important thing for us is to see how we can blend the new and old players together for a better performance.”
“Despite the fact that we started a bit late, we are optimistic of a better season, we have good players who had joined us
from other teams, and we are going to use this preseason tournament to see how we are going to incorporate them perfectly into the team in line with our philosophy,” he concluded.
In a related development, Akwa United Technical Adviser, Mohammed Babaganaru has revealed that the Promise Keepers was looking beyond results at the ongoing preseason tournament in Yenagoa.
Babaganaru said the former league champions are in the Douye Diri Preseason Tournament to build a team ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The Promise Keepers had a season to forget last season, struggling for the most part of the season but managed to escape relegation on the final day of the season.
“To be honest, we won’t really be looking at results but the understanding and team cohesion in real match situation will be our major concerns here in Yenagoa,” Babaganaru told the club’s media.
He added: “When we achieve what we want from this tournament, it will help us to build a formidable team as we plan for the new season.
“This is indeed a good opportunity for me and my technical team to properly look at the team we have on ground ahead of the new season.”
