Boxing: Aboderin highlights gains from ABU convention

The Secretary General of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), Remi Aboderin, has expressed his satisfaction with the high standards of the ongoing 2024 Africa Boxing Union (ABU) convention in Kampala, Uganda.

Aboderin, who also serves as President of the West African Boxing Union (WABU), shared his positive feedback during a telephone conversation with Edna Aiyegbeni, spokesperson for the Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria (BPAN).

He noted his pleasure at the participation of key figures including BPAN President Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, Chairman and CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions; Vice President Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Waheed, CEO of D’Lad Boxing Promotions; and international ring official and boxing matchmaker Adesanya Olusegun.

“This is a significant move to support the development of boxing in Nigeria at both professional and amateur. Recognizing the importance of boxing as one of the most popular sports in the world, I think the next move is to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is in place for aspiring boxers to train and excel in Nigeria,” Aboderin was quoted as saying.

He, however, commended  Houichi Houicine, the President, African Boxing Union (ABU), and the Secretary General of the boxing body, Mrs. Maureen Mulangira for their gracious hospitality.
