Brazilian international midfielder Oscar, who previously played for Chelsea, is returning to Sao Paulo, the club where he began his career, the team announced on Tuesday.
“Welcome, Oscar, what a great addition,” read a message at the end of a video posted on the club’s social media accounts.
Oscar, 33, whose full name is Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior, became a free agent after spending eight seasons with Shanghai Port in China.
He joined the club in 2017 after leaving Chelsea.
Oscar began his career at Sao Paulo, making his first-team debut in 2008.
Two years later, he moved to Internacional de Porto Alegre in a controversial transfer that led to a lengthy legal dispute.
An Olympic bronze medalist with Brazil’s U23 team at the 2012 London Games, Oscar later moved to Chelsea, where he scored 38 goals in 203 appearances.
During his four-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge, he won four major trophies, including two Premier League titles (2014-2015 and 2016-2017), the Europa League (2013), and the English League Cup (2015).
Oscar also earned 12 goals in 48 appearances for Brazil, with his most memorable strike coming in the 2014 World Cup semi-final, where he scored Brazil’s only goal in their infamous 7-1 loss to Germany.
