BREAKING: Rivers Assembly initiates impeachment proceedings against Fubara, Deputy

The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.

The process followed a plenary session held on Thursday and presided over by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule.

At the sitting, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, formally read the notice of allegations and claims of gross misconduct against Governor Fubara.

He disclosed that the notice was endorsed by 26 members of the Assembly, who accused the governor of actions allegedly contravening provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

Speaker Amaewhule said the impeachment notice would be served on Governor Fubara within seven days, in compliance with constitutional requirements.

In a related development, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, read a separate notice detailing allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Oduh, thereby formally commencing impeachment proceedings against her.
