CAF introduces VAR to age-grade, inter-club competitions

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced it will apply the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for all underage and inter-club competitions in 2023.

The 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations will be hosted by Algeria, while another North African country, Egypt, will host the U-20 competition.

The Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles have already qualified for both competitions.

The Olympic Eagles will battle Guinea for a place in the 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations hosted by Morocco.

Nigeria Professional Football League champions Rivers United are in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

CAF stated that VAR will be present at all venues of the under-age tournaments while it will be introduced to the inter-club competitions from the quarter-finals stage.
