The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation into the troubling events that occurred at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya, where the Nigerian Super Eagles were held.
In a statement released on Monday, October 14, by CAF’s communications department, the organization committed to taking appropriate action against those responsible through its disciplinary board.
The statement read: “CAF has been in contact with both Libyan and Nigerian authorities after learning that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘Super Eagles’) and their technical staff were stranded in distressing conditions for several hours at an airport they were reportedly directed to land at by Libyan officials.”
The issue has been forwarded to the CAF Disciplinary Board for further investigation, and appropriate measures will be taken against anyone who breached CAF statutes and regulations.
It’s important to note that the Super Eagles have since been allowed to leave Libya after being detained for over 14 hours at Al Abraq International Airport.
